Ron Paul will never be America’s president. But that a candidate with a worldview so wacky and a programme so radical has come this far tells you something about the mood of Republican voters.

That a candidate whose administration has ordered the assassination of a 17 year old American citizen, increased the debt by 3.5 trillion dollars in 3 years, and sent over one thousand American soldiers to their deaths in Afghanistan (more than Bush did his 8 years in office) is considered the only serious Democratic candidate tells you something about the pool of cognitive dissonance the left is swimming in.

^yes.

It’s called self interest for christs sake for a lot of us. For much of the rest of us, it’s compassion for our fellow Americans. Republicans, Ron Paul included have made it known that they want to eliminate long term unemployment benefits. They want to cut massive amounts of money from education, bust unions, lower taxes on the pigs at the top and put together a pipeline that will be the knock out blow for the environment and allow for unstoppable climate change.
The Democrats have been the only bulwark against those things. People always ask me “What are the Democrats gonna do for you”. I can only answer “Stop the Republicans from doing what they want to me”
The republicans are actively seeking ways to harm my life and make the world a harder place for people like me. So I don’t care how much you push this finely polished turd, I ain’t voting Republican. I’ll vote for the compromise in chief before I vote for you guys. No matter how many times you tell me Ron Paul is a devoted and gallant knight riding a noble and patriotic stead to victory, I know that he’s a deluded, racist old kook riding a bunch of asses to 3rd party land

I don’t like Republicans or Democrats, they’re 2 sides of the same coin, but I am going to defend Ron Paul here.
You’re upset because Paul wants to end social services? If the American welfare system actually worked the poverty rate in this country wouldn’t be as perilously close to what it was more than 40 years ago when Johnson introduced the War on Poverty. We’ve spent over $9 trillion and 4 decades for the poverty level to decrease by only 5%. It’s money squandered. All you have to do is look at Sweden and Norway to know that welfare can work, and it can work well, but it’s obviously not working in this country. And since there is not one candidate advocating a reasonable reform of our welfare system I’m gonna have to go with the candidate that advocates economic growth instead of parasitic government services, because that can be just as effective, if not more so, than a good welfare system.
And ending the Department of Education is much different than “cut[ting] massive amounts of money from education”. We have a bureaucracy in power that fucks us all over. You’re a smart guy, you go to an American high school, you know just as well as I do why public education in this country has failed. Taxpayers have “invested” over $500 billion dollars in public education only to come out of it with shitty academic performance at best. We’re more concerned with lowering our standards to improve a completion rate than we are with learning, and we end up hindering critical thinking and creative functioning as a result. Throwing even more money at the Department of “Education” isn’t going to solve America’s stupidity crisis. Again, all I have to do is look at Sweden and Japan and so many other countries to know that public education can work, but we’re not doing it correctly. And again, since there is no candidate with a pragmatic approach to reforming the Department of Education, I’m going to support Ron Paul in ending it and privatizing the whole thing. If we open up our learning institutions to a competitive environment, it’ll end up being much cheaper and much better than what we have now.
As far as unions go, we owe a debt of gratitude to them for fixing the working conditions and fighting for worker’s rights in this country. They had a noble purpose in World War I and II, but they don’t serve that purpose anymore. They’re useless. They’re a huge business profiting off of my money. Every 2 weeks they take over $300 from my paycheck and force me to accept their mediocre health insurance over the one I had previously.
Also, Ron Paul would lower taxes for everybody, not just those at the top.
And like, Ron Paul ain’t racist, bro. Not even a little bit. He’s not deluded, either.

Parasitic government services, you mean the ones that kept me and my family alive for several years? The ones that are willing to make sure my cousins have food on the table when their parents lost their jobs? The ones that kept in my house. You’re telling me that they’re not working!?
I’m speaking from my experience with the federal government. I’m speaking about the taxes I pay, the money my family received and every encounter I’ve had with the welfare state in my past. And it all worked. Capitalism caused the crisis, the government stepped in to make sure that I had enough to eat, a house to live in and enough money to keep the lights and the phone on. You mean to tell me that because you haven’t had to use it, and you believe that it can work, just getting rid of it is alright? Do you realize how completely steeped in selfishness that is? When you acknowledge that it can work but instead want to destroy it, you are consciously advocating the harm of people like me. That is not cool at all.
And do you realize that privatizing the schools meant that I would’ve had a religious education at Catholic school forced on me, much to my atheists Dads dismay I might add because my parents considered private school when I was young, that’s the only one they could afford.
Public school is a great equalizer and you know what will fix it? Decentralization. LBUSD was handed schools with staggering amounts of poor students, students who don’t speak english and students involved in gangs in the early 90s and because it only had to manage 6 high schools, it eventually turned it around to the point where I go to a nationally recognized school for sports, academics and music in the middle of the downtown Long Beach ghetto. We have the best academic program in a public school in southern California and I love it. Public schooling can be good and is good in many parts of the country, it’s just that poor people can’t particularly afford SAT prep classes and if that is the sort of standard you measure everyone on, of course they’re gonna do poorly. Retain the damn department of education, our funding has been cut enough at this point.
Yeah, fucking christ, he’ll lower my taxes but I won’t get a pell grant so that I can climb out of the working class and get a university education. Guess who still loses? Me. Guess who wins? The rich bastards who already have degrees.
YES HE IS RACIST, YOU CAN GOOGLE THE GOD DAMN NEWSLETTERS YOURSELF, YOU CAN LOOK THROUGH MY ARCHIVES, HE IS EITHER RACIST OR INCOMPETENT, WE’VE GONE OVER THIS A MILLION TIMES BEFORE

atomic gets real.

“If it doesn’t work, then let’s not bother repairing it!”
